Chandelier for NYRA

When the New York Racing Association in Saratoga contacted us regarding a custom chandelier, we knew it had to be something big, bold, and very equestrian.

The chandelier we designed and built occupies the gallery of their 1863 Clubhouse. The fixture measures 7 feet tall by 5 feet diameter, with 20 lights, top-grain bridle leather, and Chicago post studded leather riser straps. The 'buckles' are hand done and affixed to stirrups; brass lamp shades built in-house.

Tally ho!

Custom Sconce:

A pair of sconces custom built for a long-term loyal client who has ordered many early American & Colonial fixtures for her Lexington Kentucky home.

A particular mottled piece of terne* metal was chosen for its aged / distressed texture. Candle-wax sleeves complement the finish.

* Terne is a form of tinplate, which is iron or steel coated with an alloy so as to prevent corrosion. Tinplate was historically used in roofing and cookware. The term "terne" is derived from the French word for "dull" and was probably in reference to its dull appearance in comparison to the shiny surface of tinplate.

Authentic Designs uses copper as the base metal to which an alloy has been bonded. Unlike ferrous metals, copper will never rust. We also offer a ‘Darkened Terne’ option in which the surface has been chemically treated to recreate the effect of weathering on old tinplate.
